The Elderly And Health

Because superheroes don’t always wear capes, sometimes they just roll up their sleeves.

Through the storyline of ‘The Crisis Saga: Lifeline Link’ comic book, we aimed to enhance the understanding and awareness of blood donation in England among young adults. It fosters empathy, facilitates discussions, and, most importantly, promotes actionable public health initiatives. This project is sponsored by Give Blood. We chose to spearhead this method of intervention, due to the proportion of the young donors shrinking in England, with only half as many 17-24-year-olds giving blood now compared with five years ago.

Why Blood Donation Matters

Currently, the NHS needs more Black blood donors due to a rise in demand for rare blood types that are more common in people of Black heritage. The demand for some rare subtypes, such as Ro, is growing due to more people needing regular transfusions to treat blood disorders such as sickle cell.

The Ro subtype is particularly important for two reasons: Demand is increasing by 10-15% each year and only 2% of regular donors have the Ro subtype.
